LUSTY BEG ISLAND WEDDING
Martin and Breege

April 2016 – The day began with the long journey to Rossinver, Co. Leitrim.to check in on the bridal preparations at the bride’s family farm. I’m based in Belfast and usually quite happy to travel around although the weather was pretty bad that morning and visibility on the motorway was poor. I made it to the farm though with time to spare. It was a welcoming cosy household full of traditional rural character. I took photos as the family gathering prepared to get ready while the bride got dressed for her wedding day.
THE CEREMONY
The ceremony was at the local country church in Kiltyclogher. Floral displays adorned the entrance hallway and the interior was well lit and full of warmth. The wedding which was led by the minster and priest was very lovely. Afterwards we had planned to visit a waterfall for some portraits depending on the weather which was still rather wet. Thankfully there was a break in the clouds and we made the trip to get some shots along the country path. The couple managed to squeeze in a bottle of bubbly to celebrate before we jumped back in the cars and headed north towards Lusty Beg Island
THE RECEPTION AT LUSTY BEG
The ferry was busy and by the time we got across there was a large turnout of wedding revellers waiting to greet us. With the rain now behind us the sun was appearing from behind the clouds. I decided to make the most of the dry spell and get everyone outside towards the lake for the family shots. At the dinner reception Martin provided the speech which was full of humour and creativity – The love boxes which could be found at every table contained elements of their romance such as photos, a great love story which Martin narrated to the dinner guests. Towards the end he also mentioned that it was my birthday and everyone sang ‘Happy Birthday’ which was a real blast. I love my job as a wedding photographer however this made it particularly special to me with all the birthday greetings. The dancing soon got underway and folk circulated in and out from the pub area onto the dance floor. The band played as everyone boogied along including me in between the photo shots. A great day was had once again at one of my favourite wedding venues. Congratulations again to the lovely couple who managed to make working on my birthday so enjoyable.
