Slieve Donard Wedding

Tierna and Neil were married at the beautiful Slieve Donard Hotel in County Down in December. The wonderful seaside location at the foot of the Mourne Mountains makes for a breathtaking setting for a wedding day. The Hotel was decked out for the Christmas season creating a magical atmosphere for the couple’s wedding.

The couple celebrated their wedding day with family and friends from near and far. The day began with the bridal prep and I covered the little details such as the bouquet, shoes and dresses. The groom was also at the hotel and I was able to bounce between the two rooms capturing the pre ceremony shots with bridesmaids and groomsmen.

The ceremony was warm and magical. A Christmas tree stood at the bay windows where the couple made their vows and folk musicians strummed out Led Zeppelin renditions making the occasion very unique. After the signing of the registrar I got a couple of wide angles of the guests from behind the seated couple which I always like to do.

The grand hallway was perfect for the large group shots before we headed outside for the bridal portraits. The ever impressive Mournes make a striking backdrop and the mild December weather conditions were perfect. We captured the bridesmaids and groomsmen and I alternated between cameras for the wide angles and tighter shots. The winter sun was disappearing behind the mountains as we finished the portraits as we headed back to the warmth of the hotel.

The reception dinner and speeches were full of love and laughter as I captured guests enjoying themselves. After dinner the celebrations were just beginning with the drinks reception and a spectacular fireworks show on the lawn. I used a tripod to capture a couple of long exposure shots including  the couple in the foreground. Afterwards the dancing got underway and the revellers celebrated into the early hours.
